ICL Industrial Products (ICL-IP) has adopted a Voluntary Emissions Control Action Program (VECAP), a beyond-compliance program designed to reduce environmental emissions associated with flame retardants, as part of its product stewardship activities. ICL-IP works with its customers to reduce the environmental impact of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) throughout the value chain. In 2017, 70% of all BFRs sold by ICL-IP were covered under the VECAP program. \
VECAP’s mission is to increase awareness of chemical handling processes throughout the value chain. It is a tool for increasing the understanding of chemicals management beyond existing legislation; promoting constructive dialogue with interested industries, regulators and stakeholders; and raising awareness of all those involved in the process. For more about the 2017 VECAP progress report click here.
During 2017 ICL IP achieved a global coverage of 70% of all BFRs sold.
We look to strengthen our cooperation with organizations (such as Fretwork – a textile organization in the UK that represents many of our second line customers) to further extend VECAP coverage.
Reporting on best practices is performed by means of a scorecard. The scorecard provides an overview of housekeeping at the customer’s production sites in a particular region. All relevant questions of the VECAP questionnaire are included and answers are divided into VECAP’s recommendation (“OK”), worst case (“Not OK”) and unknown. The scorecard for Europe reveals that housekeeping is at high levels in Europe.
